USB rechargeable with consistent vibration from start to finish. The best electric option if you want hands-free scalp stimulation in and out of the shower.
Quick verdict
Best electric scalp massager for daily routines. Consistent vibration that does not fade mid-session. Fully waterproof. USB charging is convenient. Worth the $49 if you are committed to a daily scalp habit.

Battery-powered massagers slow down as the batteries drain. The vibration intensity at the start of a session is different from the end. Over a 4-minute session, this inconsistency means some areas of your scalp get stronger stimulation than others depending on where you are in the session.
The Groove runs off a rechargeable lithium battery that maintains consistent output until the charge drops below 20%. In a typical 4-minute session, the vibration feels exactly the same at minute 4 as at minute 1.
Waterproofing and shower use
The Groove is rated IPX7: submersible up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. In practice, this means full shower use with no concerns. The USB charging port has a sealed cover that we tested by submerging the device for 10 minutes with no water ingress.
One important note: make sure the charging port cover is fully seated before any water exposure. The cover is secure but requires a deliberate click. A partially open cover would compromise the seal.
Performance on thick hair
The electric vibration helps the tips push through thick hair to contact the scalp. Manual massagers rely on you pressing hard enough: which risks over-pressurizing with thick hair. The Groove's vibration does that work passively.
For our tester with coarse, high-porosity hair, the Groove was the first scalp massager that felt like it was actually reaching the scalp rather than just working the hair. This is the biggest advantage of electric over manual for high-density hair.
